East Coast Balco - Breaking the Miami Based PED Scandal

There's a very disheartening story in the Miami New Times which links a handful of current major leaguers with Miami ties to anabolic steroids and performance enhancing drugs as recent as last season.

The story asserts that several ex-employees, ex-patients and investors of a now-defunct, yet, well known anti-aging clinic named "Biogenesis," founded and run by a dark character by the name of Anthony Bosch, have produced hand written notes and computer based spreadsheets which indicts several current major leaguers and professional athletes.  Some of the names mentioned have tested positive, while some have not.

The story also strongly indicts the University of Miami, including their baseball strength and conditioning coach, Jimmy Goins.

Many of the names mentioned have strong ties to the University of Miami, while some are Miami natives but in almost every case, a link can be made to the Miami area and the "doctor."

Mentioned by name are Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, Nelson Cruz, Gio Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal and Bartolo Colon.

The most curious name on that list is Gio Gonzalez, who was mentioned five times.  Gio's father, Max, was also mentioned and Max admittedly went to Anthony Bosch because he, "needed to lose weight."

The piece also sheds light on these "anti-aging clinics," which are legal entities allowed to prescribe anabolic steroids - treating aging as a disease and steroids as a cure.

I'm sure there is more to come but I strongly suggest you read the article.
